Watchdog called to investigate fatal shooting of man by Edmonton officers – Edmonton

Alberta’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate the officer-involved fatal shooting of a man in west Edmonton.

Edmonton police said they were called Sunday morning to a report that a woman and baby had been shot at a home.

They said in a news release that officers on scene then found a man armed with a firearm who opened the front door.

Police said the 36-year-old man was given “verbal directions” but did not comply, and three officers then discharged their firearms.

They said the man was arrested but died at the scene, while the two women and a baby were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said no officers were injured, and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, or ASIRT, was notified.

The agency investigates matters involving police that result in serious injury or death to determine whether there was officer misconduct.
