Tinubu departs from Abuja to leave 10 days in Europe in the midst of supervision of frequent overseas trips

Football President Ahmed Tinubu will leave Abuja today, September 4, for Europe to start the annual leave of 2025, his president was announced on Thursday.

In a statement signed by the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the trip was part of the president’s official vacation schedule.

According to Onanuga, “Holidays will last 10 working days.”

He further revealed that, “President Tinubu will spend a period between France and Britain and then return to the country.”

The announcement came when the president’s journey patterns became the subject of debate, with critics questioning the frequency of foreign trips since serving in May 2023.

While the president has consistently maintaining the journey needed for diplomacy, investment drive, and official functions, the voices of opposition and civil groups argue that Tinubu spends more time outside Nigeria than handling the urgent domestic crisis.

Analysts noted that Tinubu had traveled abroad for the International Summit, medical examinations, and investment talks on more than a dozen opportunities in the last two years, including the extended period of residence in France, Britain and Saudi Arabia.

The critics said that this trip not only cost billions in travel costs but also triggered leadership perceptions that were not present when Nigeria wrestled with increasing sense of insecurity, inflation, and public dissatisfaction.

However, Tinubu’s assistant argues that his journey produces concrete benefits, citing new trade agreements, security partnerships, and foreign direct investment promises that are guaranteed during international involvement.

However, the latest announcement of a 10 -day work holiday has attracted new attention to the balance between government at home and the president’s dependence on Europe to rest.

For many Nigerians, the question remains whether the results of Tinubu’s foreign involvement confirmed their frequent absence from the chair of the country’s power.
