The police dismantled the fake soft drink factory in Anambra, arrested the 48 -year -old suspect

The Anambra State National Police Command has closed the illegal soft drink factory in Okpoko, the region of the Ogbaru Regional Government, and arrested a 48 -year -old suspect in connection with the operation.

The police operation attached to the fast response team, Awuzu, stormed the place on September 3, 2025, where they found and dismantled the production location. The factory was found to produce a large number of fake drinks labeled as “Iyi Obeleague juice.”

Spokesperson for Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement released on Sunday.

According to Ikenga, the product confiscated was produced without the approval of the National Agency for the administration and control of drugs and drugs (Nafdac) and pose a serious risk to public health.

The statement was read in part: “Anambra State Police Command Operations are attached to the fast response troops, Awkuzu, on September 3, 2025, opening and dismantling an illegal factory that produces toxic fake soft drinks in Oppoko, the Ogbaru government area.

“Operators arrested a Chigozie Okafor, 48 years old, in connection with illegal actions and recovering some of the branded fake juice drinks as ‘Iyi Obeleague Juice,’ which is being produced without the approval of the National Agency for Food and Medicine Administration and Control.

“This product is considered very dangerous for the health of adults and children.”

Ikenga further revealed that the Police Commissioner, Ikioye Orutugu, had directed a full scale investigation aimed at arresting other people related to the factory.

He added that the CP warned all the people involved in a similar illegal effort to stop immediately, emphasizing that the order remained committed to protecting the health and safety of the community.

Cases of fake consumables remain a concern that develops in Nigeria. In October 2024, a fake wine factory was raided in Nkport, Onitsha, where imitation brands such as ‘classic paradise,’ ‘Baron Devanis,’ ‘Dutch Black,’ ‘Triple MW,’ and Hennessy were produced. Seven workers were arrested during the operation, and the facilities were sealed.

Likewise, in June 2024, other illegal operations were found in Umuoji, the area of ​​the North Idemili Regional Government, where fake drugs – including paracetamol and flagyl – were produced. Six suspects were arrested, and the place was closed.
