The elderly of the North under the aegis of the progressive group of the north elderly people have thrown their weight behind the peace efforts during the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, urging governors of all the north-west to embrace dialogue with bandits as part of the measures to end years of violence in the region.
Speaking of a briefing printing in Kaduna Tuesday, the zonal coordinator of the group, Yusuf Abubakar, said that the non -Kinetic approaches had explored by NSA and other interested parties have already started producing results.
Abubakar, who recently traveled through Sokoto, Gusau, Fedo Zaria, has noticed visible improvements in the safety and safety of commuters.
“Compared to the previous months, there is a significant improvement in patrols and safety of travelers along these routes. This is a sign that dialogue, if well coordinated, can integrate military operations,” he said.
He advised the governors to give priority to peace interviews for visits to condolences and repeated military offensive, who supported externalized security forces without providing lasting solutions.
> “It is better for a governor to invest in saving human lives rather than spending billions in messages of condolences. A life is much more important than political gestures,” he underlined.
Responding to critics who rejected dialogue as weakness, Abubakar claimed that negotiations remain an approach to the global level in the resolution of conflicts.
“Even powerful nations such as the United States involved groups such as the Taliban, Al-Qaeda and Houthi. The negotiation is not cowardice; it is a strategic decision to save human lives,” he said.
He also criticized some governors who claimed to have information on the movement of the bandits but did not share this information with the security agencies, describing this behavior as “irresponsible propaganda”.
The group defended NSA, warning against attempts to politicize the peace process.
“The office of the national security consultant represents unity, peace and national security. Attacking it is equivalent to destabilizing the whole country,” Abubakar warned.
Senator Shehu Buba, president of the Senate’s Intelligence Committee, also praised, for what he described as a tireless effort to guarantee the success of the current dialogue initiative.
“Every northern well intention should support authentic efforts aimed at ending blood spreading and restoring peace,” he added.
The elderly urged the governors in the North-West to work hand in hand with the NSA, the Minister of Defense and the service leaders to give the dialogue initiative a successful possibility.
The North-West has been the epicenter of bandits, mass kidnappings and rural movements for over a decade, with states such as Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna and Sokoto. Thousands of people have been killed, while millions have been displaced, according to humanitarian agencies.
Abubakar insisted that while military action is needed, lasting peace can only be achieved through synergy and authentic dialogue.
