Opinion: River After Ibok -te Ibas: What’s Next?

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, the six -month emergency stated at the Rivers State on March 18 will end and this has led to high expectations among people. The hope that this will be further appointed when Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Region (FCT), the former Governor of the State of Rivers and a major architect of the crisis in the state announced a few weeks ago that the emergency will end and the suspected governor Simi Fubara will be restored. It is unclear whether Wike spoke for the president of Nigeria or the National Assembly – Two main institutions that have votes in this issue in the field of section 305 of the 1999 constitution or he only spoke to himself, typically assuming authority that did not belong to him. The people’s hopes were put higher when last week the single administrator appointed, the representative of the Ibok-Ett Admiral Iba began a series of farewell speech activities to announce the outwardness of the government which he called “our government.” Unless there is a strange development between now and Thursday, which is the next two days, the end of the emergency is certain to remember part 305 (6) (c) of the constitution. It is not thought of that the provisions in that section, which is an extension that may be by the National Assembly, will be contemplated under any circumstances. However, the National Assembly is resting until 23 September.

When he was preparing to get out and the return of the elected Rivers State Governor, the representative of the Admiral Iba allowed the pleasure of the pride that he had fulfilled the mandate given by him by the President of Tinubu on March 18, namely: To stabilize the river state, rebuilding institutions and returning the state with a democratic government. “He refers to what he calls” Successful Behavior of the Election and Oath Elected from the Chairperson and Members of the Board Elected in 23 LGA “as evidence. Winning 20 seats while the Democratic Party (PDP) won three seats. Stating the emergency in any part of the federation has been widely dismissed in the Rivers State case which cannot be justified, and Nigeria or the National Assembly is given the power to unilaterally suspend the democratic structure in a country. The state in 2011 and in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa stated that in 2013-2014, no Governor of the State Council was deleted, which was a constitutionally appropriate thing to be carried out in both cases.

Background Tension in the State of Rivers is the rejection of the former Governor of the State, Nyesom Wike to allow his successor, Simi Fubara to govern the country. He openly boasted that he placed Fubara in that position, making him a governor, and that as his baptism, his prerogative was to control it and the state. The best Fubara is the head of the number. The commissioner, with an exception may be only one, was appointed for him. Members of the Council Council and all local government chairmen are all boys Wike. The Governor of the State was elected on the PDP platform, but Wike which has one foot at PDP and another leg in APC has promised his loyalty to APC and President Tinubu, without resigning from PDP. This amphibious posture made Rivers’s politics more difficult. Instead of calling Wike to order, the president seems to be a side, and helps embarrass the elected representatives from the people. Fubara was punished for trying to emphasize himself. Now President Tinubu and his assassin at Rivers State have achieved their goals: with 20 from LGA in the hands of APC, and the House of Assembly is also a semi-season, clearly people in the state of Rivers are losing. Two days after the emergency in Rivers was declared, 11 PDP governors rushed to the Supreme Court to submit a case (SC/CV/329/2025) who challenged his constitutionality. Six months after no one heard anything about this case, and a similar case about Rivers State before the court. Democracy that has experienced the biggest blow.

Deputy Admiral Ibok -te Ibas said he had recovered peace at Rivers State. He reached for himself too much. What they have at Rivers State at this time is not peace but the peace of the grave, as well as anxiety and uncertainty about what will happen next. The single administrator provides inter-dominated thanksgiving services on Sunday, September 14. If Thanksgiving proves something, it is a lack of popularity among people in the state of Rivers. This event was boycotted by leading leaders in the state. Those present were government officials, local government chairman, service commander and a group of hangers. The traditional rulers moved away, but the Chairman of the Rivers State Council from the traditional rulers, fulfilled all the truths, successfully showing his face. Deputy Admiral Ibas quoted parts of the Bible and thanked God. He shouldn’t squeeze God. The crisis in the state of Rivers is caused by greed and circular ambitions of men. The priests who lead in the interdehenominational service also only showed how the priests became part of the problem in Nigerian politics. Many church leaders have lost their prophetic calls. The leadership of the Nigerian Christian Association (CAN) and the Nigerian Pentecostal Federation (PFN) is among the first set of people who visit and pay homage to the sole administrator at his arrival. There was nothing to be surprised if the same priest set appeared in the brick house when Governor Fubara returned and they would also be happy to lead in the Thanksgiving service to welcome him again!

Ibas tells the people of Rivers State: “Let’s forgive, let’s make peace and let’s get well …” Do he even know people who are the resources he manages for six months without accountability? How many LGA did he visit? How many meetings are the city hall that he holds outside the government’s home? What project did he complete? He promised to rebuild the River State Council Council? Did he do it? When the House of Assembly regroups, the members may have to start looking for space, and they will take care of the memory of conflict and division. Ibas’s single administrator seems to have spent the last six months sitting in his hand. He must be careful with the round of victory. He must sneak out of the state, maybe with pleasure, not to get out with ridicule and ridicule by people who are angry in the river.

People ask for an investigation of their term of office. Former Senator Lee Maeba (Rivers South East) articulates concerns when he says, “What happens in the river is not lost. We will stand to sue all the money coming to the state and the administrator’s power to only jump to the country and start to spend state money on behalf (Mosop) and Ijaw Youth Council.

What happens next will depend on the return of Governor Simi Fubara, and what he chose to do. In the last six months, he has been maintaining a low profile to avoid all types of associations that can make him open to accusations of defiance by his political master. It was reported that he met with President Tinubu and Minister Nyesom Wike on more than one occasion. In June, he and the minister were seen sitting together on the minister’s cousin’s burial service, Elder Temple onuoha. He also met with his supporters and other stakeholders to preach peace and unity. He dissolved his supporting groups and also warned women not to protest in his name. Twitter (X) Handle (@simfubaraksc) mostly focus on greetings like “Happy Eid al-Fitr” “Congratulations, happy that” and “Welcome to the Moon …” He has tried, as if, lying as low as possible. With six months taken from his term of office for four years and the insult he has targeted, the Governor of Fubara has been taught several very serious lessons about the game of power.

His best choice when he returned was to avoid further confrontation with his baptism and a local baptism killer, who would watch him carefully so that they could continue their usual games to rush to Abuja to report everything he did. He must be more worried about the survival of his political, the minimum in that is a solution that is left from his term of office. He must look for reconciliation and focus more on serving people in the river state with his best capabilities. He had to stay away from the elders and young people, and the commissioners and assistants who advised him to stand and fight. When he was moved as governor, many of the leaders went underground or became visible on the other side. They are worse than priests. If Fubara wants to breathe better when he returns, he must express support for and promise loyalty to Ball President Ahmed Tinubu, and APC, and remain only as long as possible in PDP. It is unfortunate but this is a way, manual and political grammar of Nigeria. That is the reason why this democracy is still born.

However, let the wike, Baptist’s father has a self -style, not seeing himself as a conqueror. He didn’t win anything. He must learn not to go beyond. He should not make demands that will harm Rivers State in the future. He must advise the bearers of his story to find things that are better to do with their time, and if they don’t know what to do, he can find them jobs as land agents in the Federal Capital Region! Fubara must be allowed to work. He must be protected. President Tinubu must prevent a situation where each minister behaves like a co-president and riding roughly in any state. There is never again the illegal route adopted to overcome national problems.
