The Nigerian University Senior Staff Association (SSANU) and the University of Non-Academic Staff (Nasu) have issued a seven-day notification to the Federal Government, effectively starting Monday, 15 September 2025.
In a joint letter addressed to the Minister of Manpower and Manpower, Muhammadu Dingyadi, and was released to the media on Monday, the union accused the government of failing to apply the agreement achieved in 2009, as well as ignoring to pay unpaid allowances and salary arrears.
Signed by Ssanu National President Mohammed Ibrahim and Secretary General Nasu Peters Adeyemi, the statement warned that members would be left with ‘there was no choice but to continue strike’ if the government failed to act in the ultimatum period.

The trade union also accused the government to exclude many of their members from ₦ 50 billion which were disbursed as benefits obtained, while highlighting that the 25-35% salary increase was promised for staff who did not teach had not yet been realized.
The notification has increased concerns on campuses -university campuses, with stakeholders urged the federal government to move quickly to avoid new disturbances to the academic calendar.
