The Nigerians to get the passport in a week while FG reveals the centralized production center – Thage

The Minister of the Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, described the data customization center just completed at the headquarters of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Abuja, as a “turning point” in the nation passport production system.

Speaking after the inspection of the new personalization center of the centralized passport of Nigeria at the headquarters of the immigration service of Nigeria (NIS) in Abuja, the minister said that the center will reduce response times since passports could be printed within 24 hours and delivered within a week.

He assured that the centralization that is in line with global standards would improve uniformity and would improve the overall integrity of Nigerian travel documents all over the world.

Describing development as a step to bring services closer to the Nigerians while they guide a culture of efficiency and reform of the total passport system, Tunji-Ojo said that the centralized production system in line with the reform agenda of President Bola Tinubu, increasing the capacity of the NIS and changing the narrative for a better delivery of services.

The minister declared with the new centralized system, NIS officially finished the use of multiple centers for the production of Nigerian passports for the first time in 62 years.

From the institution of NIS in 1963, Tunji-Ojo has declared that Nigeria has never managed a production center of the central passport, so far, marking a large milestone of the reform.

“The project is 100 %ready. Nigeria can now be more productive and efficient in the supply of passport services,” added that the old machines could only produce from 250 to 300 passports per day, but the new system had a capacity from 4,500 to 5,000 passports every day.

“With this, NIS can now satisfy daily requests in only four or five hours of activity,” he added, describing it as a turning point for the elaboration of the passport in Nigeria. We promised a two -week delivery and now we are pushing for a week. The automation and optimization are crucial to keep this promise to the Nigerians. “
