Oliseh says that Super Eagles runs the risk of ‘harmful legacy’ on World Cup failures

The former Super Eagles midfielder, Sunday Oliseh, warned the current generation of Nigeria players who his repeated failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup could leave lasting damage to his international races.

Nigeria, who lost the 2022 edition in Qatar, now runs the risk of not reaching the 2026 World Cup in North America after a bad career in its classification campaign.

He believes that although the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been full of structural and administrative deficiencies, players themselves must assume greater responsibility in the field.

“When we played together, there were always people like me pushing from behind. Players must realize that they have successful despite the Federation. They need to assume responsibility and stay focused,” said Oliseh.

The former Super Eagles captain argued that not reaching the greatest scenario in football decreases the legacies of the talented players.

“At the end of the day, they are not aware of the damage they are doing to themselves. Some players have spent almost 10 years with the Super Eagles without playing in the World Cup.

“Current players have already lost 2022, and if they fail again in 2026, that is another four years.

Oliseh emphasized that the solution is in a collective effort between players, coaches and administrators.
