Rivers United celebrates Aigles Du Congo for the goalless draw in the CAF Champions League

Rivers United FC fought a goalless draw against Aigles Du Congo in the first leg of his preliminary round accessory of the CAF Champions League on Saturday.

The pride of the rivers traveled to the Congo with high expectations and assured an important result of a visitor, keeping their hope hopes alive for the next round.

Despite creating several opportunities, the Nigerian side could not find an advance against a resistant defense of Aigles Du Congo.

The game began with both teams showing caution, aware of the importance of the draw. Rivers United pressed forward through his attack duo, but was repeatedly rejected by the Congolese goalkeeper, who organized an impressive exhibition.

Aigles Du Congo also threatened at the end of the first half, but Rivers United’s defense remained firm to guarantee parity at rest.

In the second half, visitors pressed more in search of a goal away from home, just to feel frustrated by the determined defense of the hosts, stimulated by their supporters of their home.

After ninety minutes of very close football, both sides were formed with a part of the booty, leaving the tie delicately balanced in front of the leg back.

Rivers United now seeks to make the home advantage count when they receive Aigles Du Congo in Uyo next weekend. A victory will guarantee the progression in the next stage, while a raffle would eliminate the Nigerians under the rule of visitor’s goals, which is still in force in CAF competitions.

The Club based in Port Harcourt, which reached the quarterfinals of the Caferación Caferación Caferación in 2023, is once again pointing to a deep race in this year’s edition. With the first stage that ends 0-0, the qualification will now depend on its ability to convert opportunities against its local fans.
