Nigeria senior national team coach Eric Chelle has hinted that he will take disciplinary action against Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye ahead of their opening AFCON 2027 qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau respectively, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Okoye has yet to arrive at the team camp with less than 24 hours to go before tomorrow’s match against Madagascar in Uyo, leaving the coach with only two goalkeepers at his disposal.
In response to pre-match press questions, we sought to know the true status of Okoye’s absence and whether there will be any consequences for his actions.
“I can tell you the truth. His club (Udinese) asked to be allowed to carry out some activities related to the club and I accepted, he was supposed to come earlier but he is not here and I will manage the situation but I have to make some decisions. We will see,” Chelle said, visibly angry.
It is still unclear if Okoye will join the team before the next game, but team sources say they are not sure because he has not been in contact despite his social media post, suggesting he is on his way to camp.
