Obasanjo, one of Nigeria’s best president, but used the president’s intimidation-tactics, Akande

Laolu Akande, a former spokesman for former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has described the former President Olusegun Obasanjo as one of Nigeria’s most successful leaders since the return of democracy in 1999, while also criticizing his approach to pursuing the third term.

Speaking at sources in the television channels, Akande acknowledged the record of the achievement of Obasanjo, noted that his government remained a benchmark for the performance between the civil governments since 1999.

“Former President Obasanjo is about the best -performing president since 1999. We cannot deny it. And it is not easy for me to say that because I see another government. But we cannot deny the fact that so far, the government of Obasanjo President is a person who has the highest level of success,” Akande said.

However, he accused that Obasanjo used intimidation as a political tactic in his efforts to extend his term of office. According to him, the former president “uses a disturbing pulpit to lift loud votes, knowing that people who will fight him do not have the same loud voice.”

The statement came against the background of Obasanjo’s rejection that repeatedly that he had been looking for a third term of office in the office. The former president has long rejected the claim that he tried to bribe members of parliament to change the constitution that benefits him, an accusation that was filled with strong resistance from the National Assembly at that time.
