The German airline Lufthansa has announced that he will cut 4,000 jobs, almost four percent of his workforce.
Lufthansa announced it in a statement on Monday 29 September 2025.
The airline said that most of the work cuts would be in Germany and will take place by 2030, taking administrative positions rather than operational.
The airline, which uses about 103,000 people, includes Eurowings, Austrian, Swiss and Brussels Airlines, as well as the Italian flagship airline recently acquired Ita Airways.
Germany is facing a second consecutive recession year, with unemployment at a decade.
The recession hit some of the country’s company giants, squeezed by Chinese competition, high energy costs and slow adoption of new technologies, according to AFP.
Lufthansa’s announcement comes a few days after another large German company, the Bosch industrial giant, said that it would reduce 13,000 jobs, or the three percent of its global workforce.
The company said: “The Lufthansa group is examining which activities will no longer be necessary in the future, for example due to the duplication of work.
“In particular, the profound changes caused by digitization and the greatest use of artificial intelligence will lead to greater efficiency in many areas and processes.”
Lufthansa has set new financial objectives for 2028-2030, including a rectified operating margin from 8 to 10 percent.
