CSO accused Adeleke to paralyze the Osun LG system, demanding an urgent intervention

A coalition of three leading civil society organizations in the state of Osun has issued a spicy open letter to the President of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the government of Governor Ademola Adeleke “intentionally destroying the regional government government” and transferring the funds intended for the development of grassroots.

Groups – Osun Grassroot Development Initiative (OGNI), Osun Renaissance Movement (ORM), and the Center for Democracy and Good Governance (OCDG) – warned that the Osun state “launched towards dangerous constitutional disorders” because local government activities have been fully closed over the past eight months.

“We argue that the constitution does not imagine the situation where only two levels of government will operate, as we have today in Osun states,” the letter said.
“The Adeleke Senator Adeleke government has been deliberately and rudely to hold the local government that is not operating illegally ordered LG staff to start an unlimited strike, thereby paralyzing activities in our local government for eight months!”

“We have it on good authority that partisan staff of the LG who are out of work for eight months are being paid monthly from proceeds of such misappropriation. Another Worrisome Financial Recklessness Carried Out by the State Government is the Recent Pilgrimage Led by a Top Official of the Government to A Shrine in Ede, where Political Functionaries Allegedly Swore an Oath of Loyalty to the Governor-an extra-buduitary expenditure that has no place in governance, “Petition stated.

The groups also condemn the approval of the new governor -this ₦ 678 million for the rehabilitation of the temple in Ede, describing it as “misuse of state resources” and misuse of taxpayers when the local council remains in a coma.

“Usually, all of this should attract impeachment procedures, if we have a functional state assembly house,” they said.

The organization urged President Tinubu to take decisive action, including reducing “more than 80 billion local government funds received illegally by the Osun state government” as mentioned by the Attorney General Federation in a lawsuit delayed before the Supreme Court.

They further asked the restored local government chairman to drag the Nigerian Regional Government Employee Union (Nulge) to the court for allegedly colluding with the state government to cover the grassroots.

“Our recommendations are made after careful consideration of all problems without sentiment to protect democracy and rule of law,” the groups emphasize.
“Allows the entire LG system to remain paralyzed under the direction of the governor not only not constitutional – it is a dangerous precedent that can collapse of democracy at the grassroots.”

The petition ended with a request for direct federal government intervention to restore governance and accountability in the Osun state, warning that failure to act can deepen poverty and insecurity throughout the local community.
