Fans boo Tottenham after the Everton Premier League draw

Tottenham’s frustrating start to their Premier League season continued on Saturday when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Everton, with fans booing the team at the final whistle.

Roberto De Zerbi’s team has had a disappointing start to the season, gaining just two points in their first four league matches.

Tottenham have only scored in the League Cup against second-tier Charlton, leaving them without a goal in the Premier League so far this season.

Tottenham struggled to find their attacking rhythm

Their quest for a first league goal will continue when they face Liverpool in the third round of the League Cup on Tuesday before hosting Aston Villa in the Premier League next weekend.

Everton, meanwhile, maintained their unbeaten run under David Moyes, with three draws and one win in their opening four games.

Tottenham’s poor form comes despite the club spending more than £300 million ($406 million) on 10 new signings since the end of last season.

Defeats against Brentford and Newcastle, followed by a draw against Nottingham Forest, had left De Zerbi’s side in the relegation zone ahead of Saturday’s games.

With Tottenham finishing 17th in each of the last two seasons, De Zerbi was desperate for a win to ease the pressure and restore confidence.

Everton create better opportunities

The draw took Tottenham out of the relegation zone, but their performance offered little for the home fans to celebrate.

Savio shot narrowly wide after receiving a delivery from Sandro Tonali, while Everton’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles also missed from the edge of the area.

Mateus Fernandes wasted a good opening for Tottenham by shooting over the bar, while Omar Marmoush failed to make the most of another promising opportunity.

Everton almost took the lead just before half-time when James Garner’s free-kick was deflected by Antonin Kinsky.

When Fernandes finally forced Jordan Pickford into a routine save, Tottenham fans responded with ironic cheers to mark their team’s first shot on target.

The last chances fail to produce the winner

Everton striker Thierno Barry came close after Tyrique George’s cross found him in the area, but his header was saved by Kinsky.

De Zerbi responded by bringing on Mohammed Kudus, Mathys Tel and Lucas Bergvall as Tottenham looked for more attacking urgency.

Kinsky almost gave Everton a goal when his attempted pass towards Tonali fell to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, but the midfielder hesitated before shooting and the chance vanished.

Former Tottenham striker Brennan Johnson had a golden opportunity after being picked out by Dewsbury-Hall but fired over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

Bergvall was denied by Pickford in the closing stages, but Tottenham failed to find the breakthrough.

The final whistle was greeted by loud boos from the stands as Tottenham’s winless and goalless run in the Premier League continued.
