The 15 -year -old boy drowns in Jigawa Pond

A 15 -year -old boy, Sunusi Abubakar, drowned in a pond in the state of Jigawa.

The spokesman for the command of the Jigawa state of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, confirmed the accident in a declaration issued on Wednesday 1 October 2025.

Tijjani revealed that Abubakar, residing in the village of Gabari in the Chamo district, drowned on Tuesday while swimming in a pond in the area.

Tijjani said that the teenager was discovered lifeless inside a wound locally called “Mahayin Gidan Toro”, located about 1.5 kilometers north of the village of Gabari.

The NSCDC spokesman observed: “Before the discovery, the shoes and trousers of the deceased were seen abandoned by the river bank.

“And according to his father, the deceased went to swim in the pond around 17:00, but he did not return home.

“Research was immediately started by the community until the body was discovered this morning.”

Tijjani added that the body of the deceased, who did not show any trace of injury, was delivered to his parents for burial.

He urged the parents, guardians and leaders of the community to warn children and young people against unsafe swimming practices in free waters bodies in order to avoid future events.
