No plan to resign for any aspiring: Atiku

Former vice -presidents Atiku Abubakar has dispelled the speculations that intends to resign for another aspiring presidential in view of the 2027 elections.

Atiku, who recently launched his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said that the media relations that suggest that they mentioned to withdraw from the tender were a distortion of his observations during a recent interview with the service of the BBC Hausa.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his media councilor, Paul Ibe, Waziri Adamawa described relationships as “inaccurate” and a false deliberate declaration of his words.

“After an in -depth revision of both the video and the transcriptions of the interview – in the original translation of Hausa and English – it is clear that at no time the former vice -president has expressly indicated, suggested or even implicated that it intends to resign for anyone”, reads the declaration.

Ibe clarified that what Atiku said was that the young Nigerians and other aspiring were free to contest, adding that if a younger candidate had to defeat him in a competitive primary, he would have promptly supported such a person.

“What Atiku Abubakar said clearly and unequivocally was that young people, as well as other potential aspiring presidential aspiring, are free to participate in the competition.

He also stressed that if a young candidate had to emerge through a competitive primary, he would have promptly supported such a candidate without any hesitation, “added Ibe.

The statement further criticized what described as “interpretative journalism extended to the malice point”, warning that these practices should not be encouraged.

Previous relationships had mentioned Atiku who said during the interview of the BBC Hausa: “If I run in office, and a young man defeats me, I will accept it. The party we have joined now to give priority to young people and women”.

Atiku, however, claimed that the observations only underlined his commitment to lead the younger politicians and support the inclusiveness, not the intention of taking a step back for any aspirant.
