The Secretary of the Lesothho Football Association (LEFA) Mokhosi Mohapi says that the last decision of the FIFA World Football Governing Agency to deduce three points of South Africa hindered its chances of reaching the World Cup.
South Africa introduced an inelegable player in Teboho Mokoena against Lesotho in March, when he was supposed to be suspended after collecting two reservations in previous games.
FIFA waited until last week before formally deciding to apply the sanction to South Africa delivering the three points to Lesotho in a 3-0 victory. Mohapi said he feels satisfied but lamented the delay of the decision.
He felt that the sanction should have come before to give them a better opportunity to press for a superior end. “FIFA has done well to respect its own regulations. We had always maintained that our search for this case had nothing to do with South Africa,” Mohapi told Sowetan.
“Lesotho is a good faith member of FIFA and we play the legitimate role to ensure that football rules are respected. We are happy to have been claimed.
