Paul Ibe, media advisor to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has clarified the report that his school principal will override the ambition of the 2027 President if his party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), can present a younger candidate, enthusiastic, and can be accepted as a presidential candidate.
Atiku, who made an appointment in an interview with BBC Hausa service on Wednesday when Nigeria celebrated the 65th anniversary of independence, reportedly said that even though he was in a race for the next presidential election, he would resign and support much younger candidates.
But Ibe, in a statement about his X -grip on Friday, rejected the report, said Atiku might have missed it because the interview was conducted in Hausa and the interpretation was taken outside the context.
“It is necessary to clarify certain representation errors arising from the interview report given by His Majesty, Atiku Abubakar, to the BBC Hausa service by several parts of the media,” Ibe said in the statement.
‘After a comprehensive review of video and interview transcripts – in original hauasa and English translation – it is clear that there is no former vice president who explicitly states, suggests, or even implies that he intends to resign to anyone.
“What Atiku said Abubakar clearly and clearly is that young people, as well as other presidential candidates, are free to take part in the contest.
“He further stressed that if a young candidate appeared through a competitive primer, he would easily support such candidates without hesitation.
“While interpretive journalism is a valid aspect of reporting, stretching interpretation to the point of damage is unacceptable and should not be encouraged.
“Therefore, his notes, satire associated with Waziri Adamawa from the BBC Hausa interview are inaccurate and does not reflect what he really said,” added Ibe.
