Boko Haram is now a part of our national life, Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Nigerians to face the Boko Haram rebellion with critical reflection and investigation questions, warning that the threat has grown into a “monster” in the country.

Speaking on Friday at a public presentation of a new book, Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and Boko Haram Conundrum, written by former defense staff Chief, General Lucky Irabor, in Abuja, Obasanjo regretted that the rebellion had become embedded in national life.

“Boko Haram is now almost a part of our lives. Should we accept it? If not, then what should we do?” Obasanjo asked. “How much do we know about? From their side and from us, are we active enough? Are we proactive enough? This is the question needed that we must ask ourselves whether we want to deal with this situation.”

The former president, who also wrote the introduction of the book, emphasized the need for a wider national conversation and practical solutions to overcome the ongoing security crisis. He praised General Irabor for the courage to document the perspective of people in the struggle of Nigeria against terrorism, describing the work as an important contribution to history and policy.

This settlement attracted a variety of high -ranking officials, including former President of Goodluck Jonathan, serving and retired the heads of services, governors, and scholars, underlines national interests from security challenges.
