Dans to send engineers dismissed to sugar, cement plants

The Dangote Group is ready to redistribute the engineers of the refinery, which have been fired for adhesion to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, with the Company’s sugar and concrete plants, learned Sunday Punch.

The company will also take on new engineers to replace the redistributed ones.

Sources in the refinery, which did not want to be mentioned because of the sensitivity of the matter, said that the reduction was a huge loss for the company.

It has been collected that some of the 800 could also be lined up in units within the group’s operations outside the country.

Pengassan closed the oil and gas structures between Sunday and Tuesday for the accusations according to which 800 refinery workers were fired for volunteering to be a member of the union.

But the refinery of Dangote said he fired only a few workers who were sabotaged the structure.

Oil and gas workers shocked in defense of their colleagues, causing the losses of the nation in the production of oil and gas, as well as a drop in energy production.

The intervention of the Federal Government has restored peace since the Dongote Group was asked to redistribute the dismissed workers.

Speaking with one of our correspondents, an official said that Dangote had no problems with the workers’ decision to join a union, but the deed of sabotage could not be tolerated.

The workers were accused of issuing sensitive information to those who perceived the enemies of the refinery.

On Sunday Punch it was collected that some of the engineers concerned were among those trained outside the country to build the refinery.

“The workers will be redistributed in sugar, cement and other corporate units. Some of us are equipped with some of the affected people. They are prospects and the company had good plans for them.

“Someone examined the loss for the company? Most of these boys were recent graduates employed by the company, sent abroad for training and then absorbed in the system. These are probably the first set of Nigerian engineers who had been part of the commissioning of a refinery. To commission with someone who was employed after the project.

“How many generations of engineers in Nigeria have this opportunity? To use new hands requires to train them because most of the Nigerian graduates have no working experience. Can you quantify that investment? It is very, but is it not possible to risk sabotitioners in the system. Then the time before becoming rooted?

It has been revealed that some of the engineers had previously been pointed by a foreign company because of their skills.

On the statement that the expatriates were paid higher than the Nigerian engineers, a consultant explained that even the Nigerians who were expatriates in other countries enjoyed some benefits.

“It is normal that in the training phase of each company you get your best hands to manage it, but while you train your people, take charge. While a refinery looks elegant, it is not upstream, so you cannot compare salaries. IOC and other players upstream will pay higher than a refinery,” said the consultant while he reacted to attend low wage.

Another source said that some workers would be sent outside the country, stating that the redistribution process was in progress and would have ended on a case -by -case basis.

“The restored workers would be lined up in different units. As you know, the Dongote group manages more structures both in Nigeria and outside the country. So, some of the employees will be redistributed in those positions. It will pass through a process, but once concluded, they will resume their new roles. They hope, they should not take too long,” said the source.

Dangote’s refinery, an integrated structure of 650,000 barrels per day located in the free Lekki area, Lagos, is the largest oil refining project of Africa.

The system should significantly reduce Nigeria dependence on refined oil products imported by creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

The official added that the refinery remained engaged in the implementation of agreements achieved with union leaders during a meeting with the federal government.

In the last few weeks the refinery of damage has been subjected to fierce attacks. It started with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and natural gas workers and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, which has accused the plant of monopolistic practices and unfair prices that threatened the survival of independent marketing experts.

Marketing experts said that the terms of damage have put them at disadvantage and requested government intervention.

Nupeng collided with the refinery on workers’ rights, affirming that Dangote prevented the unionization petrol drivers.

The association closed the refinement and fuel deposits despite a brown agreement from the government.

The stall intensified when Pengassan entered the fray, condemning the mass dismissal of hundreds of workers.

The Union replied by directing the supplies of crude and gas, unleashing interruptions at national level and fuel queues.

The government’s mediation has relieved the tension, but the interested parties are waiting for the implementation of the agreements achieved by all parties during the conciliation meeting organized by the government.
