The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) has announced a 7-day warning strike starting Monday, October 6, 2025, following several unresolved issues with the hospital management.

This was stated in a statement released at the end of the ARD emergency meeting and made available to journalists in Uyo on Wednesday.

The statement was signed by Dr. Promise Jacob, President of the ARD and Dr. Enam-Eti Akpan, Secretary General of the ARD.

According to the release, the resident doctors ask the hospital management to implement the correct CONMESS entry level for newly hired resident doctors and to reissue appointment letters to reflect the correct level.

The statement asked the hospital management to upgrade the members to their current grade levels with timely payment of the corresponding arrears and to pay the salary arrears and deficit for newly hired residents and those due from 2023.

The statement reads in part: “The 3 members affected by the biometric capture failure should be immediately paid via the GIFMIS platform pending correction on the IPPIS platform.

“Payment of arrears of salaries due to the 2023 batch of employed residents.

“Urgent deployment of additional medical specialists across all departments to address manpower shortages and mitigate workplace burnout.

“Renovation and correct maintenance of the House officers’ quarters and call rooms.”

The Association stressed that an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) will be convened upon expiration of the warning strike to review management’s response and determine further action.
