Tinubu nominated Oyedele as junior finance minister

President Bola Tinubu has nominated a member of his economic team, Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance.

Oyedele will replace Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been transferred to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, her third portfolio in government.

The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Mr Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, Tuesday, said Tinubu conveyed Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Insha Allah Akpabio.

Until his nomination, Oyedele was Chairman of the President’s Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform.

The committee spearheaded major reforms that overhauled Nigeria’s taxation system.

Oyedele, 50, hails from Ikaram, Akoko, in Ondo and holds a Higher National Diploma in Accounting and Finance from Yaba College of Technology.

He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

Oyedele completed executive education programs at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science and Harvard Kennedy School.

He spent 22 years at PriceWaterHouse Coopers (PwC), where he was Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

Oyedele is a professor at Babcock University, Ogun State, and visiting researcher at Lagos Business School.
