There was a traffic jam along Admiralty Way in the Lekki section of Lagos State on Monday following several collisions involving several vehicles, one of which caught fire.
It is known that the incident along the busy corridor caused panic in the area, because the burning vehicle caught fire, sending thick smoke into the sky and forcing drivers and residents to evacuate.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the development in a public update on Monday, stating that the collision occurred near Road 14 along Admiralty Way, near the Admiralty Roundabout.
Footage from the scene showed one of the vehicles engulfed in flames, producing thick black smoke that could be seen from a distance.

As a result, road users quickly left the affected lane while emergency responders moved to contain the situation.
Traffic movement in the area was very disrupted, so LASTMA officers diverted motorists via Jalan 14, so they could reconnect to Jalan Durosimi Etti to avoid the accident site and burning vehicles.
This disruption has been further exacerbated by the ongoing road rehabilitation along the main road axis undertaken by the Lagos State Government, leaving many motorists and commuters stuck in long traffic queues.
Emergency firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service then arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire, but the affected vehicles were completely burnt.
No fatalities were recorded in the incident.
