The Abia State Government has approved the request of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for additional land to set up a training base in the state.
The state governor, Alex Otti approved 100 hectares of land at the Abia Airport Project site in response to NAF’s earlier request for an expansion of 50 hectares of land already earmarked for the project.
Governor Otti gave the approval on Tuesday while receiving a delegation from the Nigerian Air Force Ground Training Command.
He thanked the Indonesian Air Force for the approval to establish the base in Abia State.
The Governor assured the Air Force delegation led by Air Marshal Adebayo Kehinde that the runway of the Abia Airport which is being constructed by the Federal government and the Abia State government, would be ready soon.

“You could say that you have at least 100 hectares of land in that place,” said Otti.
The Governor further assured that his government would put pressure on the contractor handling the Air Force office renovation project in Abia State, to complete it before the end of April so that the Chief of Air Staff can come and take over the office.
He urged the Commander to continue to support the Abia government in the fight against criminality in the State, while assuring the Commander that the Certificate of Occupancy for the land would be ready within thirty days.
Speaking earlier, the Air Officer Commanding Ground Training Command (AOC), Air Marshal Adebayo Kehinde noted that the security of Eastern Security was impressive, adding that Abia State was far ahead of other South East states in terms of security.
