Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has approved the introduction of a hybrid payment system for motorists entering airport access gates across the country.
This development was announced in a statement by the Special Advisor to the Minister for Media and Communications, Mr. Tunde Moshood.
According to the statement, the directive was issued after Keyamo held a meeting with officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and senior ministry personnel.
The minister explained that the move comes after the complete suspension of the cashless “Access Gate Payment System”, which was previously suspended at the direction of President Bola Tinubu following complaints of traffic congestion at airport entry points.
“The Ministry has decided to engage concessionaires to introduce fully automated or electronic systems at all access gates at our airports to completely and ultimately eliminate cash payments.

“Meanwhile, the hybrid payment system that accommodates cash and card payments will continue at all airport access gates with effect from Friday.
“Motorists who already have a FAAN Go Cashless Card can continue to use it until further notice. Other electronic payment options, including POS terminals and other approved digital channels, will also remain available,” he said.
Keyamo also appealed to the public and motorists to obtain and use the “FAAN Go Cashless Card”, stating that the authorities are working to strengthen and fully optimize the cashless payment system.
He added that the decision temporarily restores the previous access gate payment arrangements while efforts continue to establish a fully automated electronic system at airport entry points nationwide.
