The LIRS extends the deadline for submitting annual tax returns for natural persons to 14 April 2026

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing annual individual income tax returns by two weeks from April 1 to April 14, 2026.

In a statement released on Monday, LIRS Executive Chairman, Dr. Ayodele Subair, explained that the legal deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns is March 31 of each year. He noted that the extension is intended to provide people with more time to complete and file accurate tax returns.

Dr. Subair said individuals must prioritize timely filing of their annual tax returns, stressing that compliance should be incorporated as a routine personal practice.

It also reiterated that electronic filing through the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved method for filing annual returns, as manual filing has been completely eliminated. Private individuals are therefore required to submit the declaration exclusively through the LIRS eTax portal:

Describing the platform as secure, easy to use and accessible 24/7, Dr Subair advised people to ensure their TaxID is correctly captured in their communications.
