INEC is trying to create chaos ahead of 2027 elections -ADC

Bolaji Abdullahi, national publicity secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was creating a chaotic situation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abdullahi who spoke on Thursday while appearing on Arise TV criticized INEC’s revalidation plans just months before the vote.

“Encouraging people to register as voters is quite difficult. Asking everyone who has a voter card to return to their polling station to revalidate the card several months before the election is an act of sheer anarchy,” he said.

“All this shows that INEC is trying to create chaos”, he said.

Abdullahi said Nigerians should be concerned about the direction of democracy in their country.

“We are all Nigerians. We can see what is happening. We can see our democracy crumbling before our very eyes,” he added.

“But it is very clear what is going on and it should concern everyone.”

He also emphasized that the ADC will continue with its congress and convention despite INEC’s position.

He said the party had informed INEC about its congress and convention plans.

“So we said that we will continue with our congress. We have given 21 days’ notice to INEC. They have accepted the notice,” he said.

“So whether they come or not, we will continue our congress. And we will continue our convention.”

INEC previously announced that it would no longer recognize the ADC faction led by David Mark and Nafiu Bala after reviewing the appeal court decision.

In a statement on Thursday, the election referee said the decision followed his assessment of the court ruling.

Reacting hours later, Abdullahi accused the commission of acting under pressure from the federal government.

He said the government had “panicked over the opposition momentum despite efforts to destroy all opposition parties and impose one-party rule on Nigeria”.

Abdullahi also alleged that there were attempts to manipulate the political process in the interests of President Bola Tinubu – ahead of the 2027 elections.

“When we keep saying there are plans to make President Bola Tinubu the sole candidate in the 2027 elections, people think we are being hysterical,” he said.

“They thought we were just dressing up a conspiracy theory,” he said.
