Monrovia, April 2, 2026 — Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr. has been formally honored by the Rhode Island House of Representatives in the United States for his longstanding service and contributions to Liberia.
The recognition was conferred during Senator Snowe’s ongoing working visit to the U.S., where he is engaging policymakers and stakeholders on governance and development issues.
Speaking in a WhatsApp interview with this publication, Senator Snowe said the honor followed an invitation from Nathan W. Biah Sr. to pay a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the House, K. Joseph Shekarchi.
He noted that he was warmly received and officially welcomed on the House floor, where he was presented with a certificate of appreciation.
During the legislative session, Senator Snowe was introduced before members of the House and subsequently honored for his distinguished public service to Liberia.
“Senator Snowe has served Liberia with distinction, including as former Speaker of the House of Representatives. He currently represents Bomi County in the Liberian Senate, where he chairs the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs. His leadership career reflects resilience, experience, and a strong commitment to democratic governance.
Over the years, he has remained a consistent voice in national development and legislative affairs, contributing to peace, stability, and sustainable development efforts in Liberia and across West Africa,” the House read as part of Senator Snowe’s introduction during the session, where he was asked to stand.
After the introduction, he was honored by the Rhode Island House of Representatives for his longstanding service and contributions to Liberia.
The citation from the Rhode Island House of Representatives, which was handed to Senator Snowe, reads in part: “The Rhode Island House of Representatives hereby offers its sincerest congratulations to the Honorable Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr. in recognition of your distinguished service to the Republic of Liberia as Senator of Bomi County, former Speaker of the House, and a committed advocate for national unity, democratic governance, and regional cooperation.”
The certificate, dated March 31, 2026, was proposed by Representative Biah and signed by Speaker Shekarchi, Majority Leader Christopher R. Blazejewski, and Minority Leader Michael W. Chippendale at the State House in Providence, Rhode Island.
Meanwhile, Senator Snowe, in return, expressed appreciation for the recognition.
