The Nigerian Police Force in Ogun State has recorded a significant breakthrough in traffic management following the successful “No Traffic Gridlock” operation in Ifo, which led to the arrest of traffic violators and the removal of obstacles along the busy Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway.
The operation, led by Ifo Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kamorudeen Olabisi, was aimed at restoring sanity and ensuring free flow of traffic in the area, long plagued by congestion and illegal road activities.
The results revealed that the exercise led to the elimination of obstacles that had previously disrupted vehicle movement, making transportation easier for commuters and residents who rely heavily on the route for daily activities.
Speaking on the development, Prince Adewale M. Asade commended the DPO and his team for what he described as “exemplary leadership and operational excellence”, stressing that the initiative reflects a proactive and people-oriented approach in policing.
He said the success of the operation underlines the importance of strategic coordination and commitment to public order, adding that such efforts are crucial to safeguard livelihoods and improve public safety.
Asade further noted that the initiative has strengthened public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that effective policing should not only focus on law enforcement, but also on maintaining order and supporting socio-economic activities.
“The achievement is worthy of commendation and should serve as a model for other divisions across the state,” he said.
He urged constant efforts to ensure sustained compliance and continuous monitoring of traffic activities within the axis.
The Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway is a major economic corridor connecting Ogun and Lagos states and has often suffered traffic bottlenecks due to illegal parking, roadside trading and poor traffic discipline.
Residents and motorists have since expressed relief at the improved traffic flow, calling for support from the operation to avoid a recurrence of the gridlock.
