Two persons were confirmed dead while several others sustained injuries of varying degrees in multiple accidents that occurred at the Soka junction of the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway on Saturday evening.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement made in Ibadan, the state capital by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
Olayinka said the accident which occurred at around 10.10pm on Saturday was caused by a white HOWO truck with Gombe registration number GEM696XE driven by Abdullahi Bashiru.
He said the truck driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle due to reckless driving and excessive speed, resulting in it hitting another vehicle and a pedestrian.
He said the truck damaged several vehicles, including a Toyota Venza and a BMW.

“Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, sympathizes with the families of the deceased and prays for the recovery of the injured victims,” he said.
Olayinka assured the general public that the command has initiated a thorough investigation to ascertain the complete circumstances surrounding the incident.
PRO urges the public, especially motorists, to be careful, obey traffic rules, and avoid excessive speed to prevent unnecessary loss of life.
“The Police Command in Oyo State remains committed to protecting lives and property. We therefore urge citizens to continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information,” Olayinka said.
