2027: The late Buhari’s son, Yusuf, will contest a seat in the House of Representatives

The son of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Yusuf, has announced his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 elections.

Bashir Ahmad, former special assistant for digital communications to the late Buhari confirmed the move on his X account (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

In a letter dated April 3 and purportedly signed by him, Yusuf informed stakeholders of his decision to contest the federal legislative seat representing Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I am very pleased to inform you of my intention to compete for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our society,” the letter read.

And in a post on his X page confirming the development, Ahmed noted that the decision was taken after extensive consultations with stakeholders.

“After extensive consultations, Yusuf Buhari, son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote.

Since his father left office, very little has been heard about Yusuf, making his bid for a DPR seat his most prominent political move to date.

His father was a two-time leader, first ruling as military Head of State in a coup in 1983 to 1985, and then as civilian President from 2015 to 2023.
