A 25-year-old man threatens to kill his parents with a saber

A 25-year-old man, Ogidi Moses, appeared before the Abeokuta Magistrates Court in Isabo on Wednesday accused of threatening to kill his parents.
Moses, whose address was not provided, faces two charges bordering on endangerment to life and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutor, Inspector Evelyn Motim, told the court that the accused committed the offense on September 11 at about 8.20pm in Elebute Olorunda town, Abeokuta.
Motim alleged that Moses, the son of the complainants, Mr Ogidi Ebonyi and Mrs Ogidi Mary, had threatened to kill them both with a cutlass.
He claimed that Moses entered his parents’ home and demanded that they be served food. When they refused, he forcibly took the meal.
After taking the food, he left but then returned in anger, brandishing a saber and threatening to kill his parents.
Seeing the unfortunate situation unfold before them, the parents raised an alarm, which alerted the neighbors and resulted in Moses’ arrest.
The incident was reported to the police, resulting in the arrest of the accused.
“This is not the first time the defendant has threatened to kill his parents; this life-threatening act should not be overlooked. Not only does he pose a threat to his family, but also a threat to the community at large,” the prosecutor said.
According to the prosecutor, the offenses contravened the provisions of Sections 86 and 249 of the Ogun Penal Code Laws, 2006.
The magistrates, Mrs OO Sam-Obaleye, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in the same sum, who must be a surety registered with the Ogun State Magistracy.
Obaleye ordered that Moses be detained at the Ibara Correctional Centre, pending the finalization of his bail conditions.
He adjourned the case to October 7 for hearing.
