Nigerian international striker Moses Simon was honored by Belgian first division side Gent over the weekend for his contributions during his time at the club, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Simon joined Gent in the January 2015 transfer window from Slovak side AS Trenčín and immediately became a key player in coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s squad and helped Gent win their first national championship title in May 2015.
Two months later, Simon assisted Laurent Depoitre’s winning goal in the 2015 Belgian Super Cup against cup holders Club Brugge. It was the first time that the club had achieved the double in its existence. A record that remains to this day.
Now at Paris FC in the French Ligue 1, he left Gent for a record fee after three years at Spanish side Levante in 2018. He was honored for his contributions to the team during his time at the club in front of fans before the weekend’s game against Mechelen.
The club’s fans held banners with his name and sang songs of praise for the 30-year-old who left the club with 21 goals and 16 assists in 136 games in all competitions.
