President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with Oyo State All Progressives Congress chief Teslim Folarin on Thursday evening in what observers describe as an early sign of political realignment ahead of the 2027 governorship election..

The meeting, which took place at the Ikoyi presidential residence in Lagos, was confirmed by Folarin via his verified social media accounts, although details of the discussions were not disclosed.

Folarin, who represented Oyo Central in the Senate and flew the APC governorship flag in the 2023 elections, remains a key figure within the party structure in the state.

PLATFORM TIMES findings indicate that the pledge may not be unrelated to ongoing consultations within the ruling party on its strategy to regain power in Oyo State in 2027.

Party sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, hinted that the APC leadership has intensified behind-the-scenes moves to reposition the party, following its loss in the latest governorship poll.

Another senior APC figure in the state, Sharafadeen Alli, is also said to be in the mix, having reportedly met the president in recent times, fueling speculation about possible contenders for the party ticket.

While the Presidency is yet to release an official statement on the meeting, analysts say the renewed high-level consultations underline the growing importance of Oyo State in the APC’s broader political calculations.

More than a year after formal campaign activities began, political observers believe the ruling party is trying to avoid the internal divisions that affected its chances in the previous election cycle.
