Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has turned to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing pressing national concerns and changing political realities.
The former presidential candidate, in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, attributed his decision to worsening insecurity, rising costs of living and “shrinking democratic space.”
Hayatu-Deen, who is taking part in the PDP’s 2022 presidential primaries, said national challenges forced him to seek credible alternatives that focus on security, economic stability and job creation.
He warned that democratic institutions were under pressure, and said that the space for genuine opposition was narrowing and that Nigerians deserved real and meaningful political choices.

The politician, who promised to use decades of experience in business and economic reform, said he would actively campaign with ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Hayatu-Deen said his 2022 ambitions were driven by hope, but added that Nigerians’ hopes were met with disappointment and unfulfilled promises.
The former presidential candidate promised to leverage his experience in business, reform and philanthropy to support job creation and create a more prosperous Nigeria.
