17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Katsina State, has explained the death of a soldier, Cpl. Ude, Jude under his command.
In a statement on Sunday, the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Cap. Abayomi Adisa dismissed reports of internal sabotage and negligence in the soldier’s death.
He said that the deceased was not a lieutenant as widely reported, but a corporal who was enlisted in 2012 under the 67th Regular Recruit Admission.
Adisa said: “The incident that led to his death did not occur inside the barracks as expected, instead he suffered external injuries while stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Funtua.
“On February 16, at about 8.30pm, Jude, an indigene of Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, reportedly left his duty post to purchase personal items when he was attacked.

“Preliminary investigations later revealed that the incident stemmed from a physical altercation with a civilian due to a personal dispute.
“The injured soldier was immediately given first aid before being evacuated to the 17th Brigade Medical Center, where he received ongoing medical treatment.
“He was later relieved of duty to allow a full recovery, as medical reports indicated that he had suffered stab wounds and other trauma from the violent encounter.
“Despite weeks of clinical treatment and monitoring, tragedy struck on March 24, 2026, when he collapsed outside his residence shortly after receiving medical treatment.
“Jude was rushed back to the Medical Center but was confirmed dead on arrival.
“The Garrison Commander personally oversaw essential arrangements, including the provision of coffins and mortuary services, while additional institutional support was provided by the 82 Division Garrison in Enugu.”
