The Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, says insecurity in Nigeria can be decisively addressed within six months if the federal government takes necessary action.
Ndume spoke on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television, where he expressed concern over renewed violence in the North East.
According to the lawmaker, ending insecurity requires decisive action, increased military capacity and strong political will.
He said, “This is not about complaining. This is not about asking someone like me, as a senator, to say why this is happening. I have always believed that if the President and the Federal Government of Nigeria are serious about this, we can end this (insecurity) in six months.
“All we need is to train our soldiers, equip them, arm them well, and then motivate them.”
Ndume also condemned the continued loss of military personnel, including senior officers, and described the trend as worrying and indicative of greater operational challenges. He added that the army lacked adequate equipment and morale was declining.

The senator further blamed the deteriorating security situation on inconsistent implementation of strategies, and urged authorities to match words with actions.
“We have to be very serious about this issue; we have to walk the talk,” he said.
Regarding foreign support, Ndume emphasized the need for intelligence, technology and specialized expertise rather than reliance on external forces. He noted that Nigeria lacks drone capacity and called for increased deployment of technology-based solutions, citing the example of Burkina Faso.
“We have experts on the ground; all they need is equipment, ammunition and motivation. We don’t have enough drones.
“Look at what Burkina Faso is doing; this is technology. We can use it to solve or minimize this in the shortest possible time. If we use drones, we have a young generation who are experts and designing them.
“In Borno, if you install surveillance cameras, you can see everything that happens. Today, you can install surveillance cameras that can cover a distance of 100 meters. Once we can increase our military assets in Borno and elsewhere, that will help a lot in reducing our problems.”
Ndume also praised Babagana Zulum for his efforts in stabilizing parts of Borno State, and stated that the situation would have been worse without his intervention.
“If it were not for the efforts of Prof Babagana Zulum (governor) in complementing the military efforts in the state, Borno State would have collapsed,” he said.
