*Files a robbery case against me, a desperate ploy of a drowning politician
Former Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has described as a “desperate ploy by a drowning politician” the move by Kwara State governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to initiate a criminal culpability case against him over the 2018 Offa robbery incident “about which I know nothing”.
While describing the criminal case as “dirty politics taken too far and too low”, Saraki warned Abdulrazaq to desist from this despicable act of using the Offa robbery incident as a weapon whenever he found himself under political pressure due to his poor political conception and inability to live up to expectations as the governor of a state known as the State of Harmony.
“Usually, my attitude towards this treacherous move by the incumbent governor of Kwara State to initiate a criminal liability case against me in the unfortunate armed robbery incident that occurred in Offa community eight years ago should be to shrug my shoulders and say we will meet in court as I know I had nothing to do with the incident or any other crime.
“However, I have been inundated with calls from many well-meaning Nigerians who are surprised by this turn of events. Therefore, for the benefit of the general public, let me categorically state that I have nothing to do, directly or indirectly, with any case of armed robbery or any criminal matter whatsoever. The Offa robbery incident was engineered under the Buhari administration with the connivance of some individuals from Kwara State as a tool of blackmail to take political power from our group in 2019.
“The case was investigated by the police team from the Office of the Inspector General of Police. However, following the investigation, in two separate legal notices dated 22 June 2018 and 23 August 2018, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) stated that there was no evidence directly or indirectly linking me to the robbery incident.
The DPP in his first legal opinion stated that “For the President of the Senate and the Governor of Kwara State, this office is unable to establish from the evidence contained in the interim report a link between the alleged crime and the suspects.”
In a second report, the DPP stated that “with regard to the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, as there is no deviation from the previous conclusions of the interim report, this office is still unable to establish any prima facie case against him for any offenses of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and manslaughter.”
Based on the advice of the DPP, four suspects were charged to court by the Kwara State Government. They were convicted at first instance and the conviction was confirmed by the court of appeal. The matter is now before the Supreme Court.
“Suddenly, the governor woke up after I gave my interview to Channels TV where I commented on the insecurity in the state and I thought that he might resurrect these baseless allegations against his two predecessors. I noticed that in his propaganda plan to circulate his frivolous allegations and other distorted documents as paid advertisements in national newspapers, even before notifying the accused, he has intentionally hidden the DPP reports and other documents that belie the farce he is perpetuating. These are efforts intended to deceive the media into giving purchased publicity to the fabrication.
“Therefore, I am under no illusion that this case was a frivolous move and an abuse of the judicial process to embarrass my person. My legal team will definitely meet this governor in court. I believe that Abdulrahman simply believes that he could still use this case to harass and defame my person by abusing the judicial process. He had tried to get the families of the victims to file civil cases against me and the other respondents, but he seemed to be making no progress with this spiteful effort as the families backed away.
“I must remind him that this vicious attack on my reputation because he enjoys governor’s immunity is a huge joke on him. A sitting governor accusing his two immediate predecessors of armed robbery is only making a mockery of the institution. He is only ruining the governorship of our dear state. This is an example of dirty politics taken too far and too low. He should know that no one at the national or state level believes his claims. He is the butt of a vulgar joke. Many of those involved in the conspiracy to blackmail me with the Offa robbery case since then they have faced the judgments of the law of karma I have no doubt that this governor will end the same way.
“One would have thought that a governor, whose state lost more than 400 lives to banditry between January 2025 and March 2026, with over 100 others kidnapped in the worst cases of insecurity since his creation, would concentrate efforts and focus on taming the menace by bringing arrested bandits to justice. No. He is obsessed with filing frivolous and politically motivated charges against his predecessors. This shows the dark mindset of the man he is today the governor of Kwara state.man who emphasizes dirty politics over development and security of lives and properties of citizens He started working on this plot soon after my interview on Channels TV where I criticized his lack of capacity in addressing the security crisis in the state.
“This is a simple act of a desperate politician who is losing control in his party and knows that his days in government are numbered. It is the reason why Nigerians should always take into consideration the level of education of those we elect into office. For a man who has never completed secondary education, it is difficult for him to appreciate the issues involved in any matter. His level of education is definitely affecting his judgement.
“I would, however, reiterate my unshakable belief and trust in the ability of the judiciary to deliver justice at all times and to all categories of people, regardless of who their accusers are and whatever the motivation. I believe that the judiciary will always sort out the chaff from the wheat in the various cases before it. My legal team has been fully briefed and I know that this case against me will collapse like a pack of cards.
