Nigeria senior national team coach Eric Chelle says the list of players competing in the Unity Cup in May will largely be made up of players from little-known leagues in Europe, as well as players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Chelle confirmed the OwnGoalNigeria.com exclusive two days ago saying that the team’s fringe players will also get a chance to work on their long-term plans at the tournament, which will take place in London.
Nigeria will defend their tournament title in their first match against Zimbabwe, where they will hope for a place in the final against the winner of the other match between India and Jamaica.
We can exclusively reveal that up to six players from NPFL teams will be on the list, and not the ten that have been mooted in some quarters.
Sources close to the coach say he will watch matches online or live to choose players, rather than relying on recommendations as he has done in the past.
