Fake senatorial list: Abiodun aide Doregos distances himself, blames social media impostor

… Requests police intervention for an identity theft charge

A Senior Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Housing, Oluwatobi Doregos, has disavowed a viral social media post allegedly circulating a list of senatorial candidates for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, insisting that the publication was false and unauthorized by him.

The controversial post allegedly congratulated the state’s deputy governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, as senatorial candidates for Ogun West, Ogun East and Ogun Central respectively.

The message, which spread widely on social media platforms, triggered political tensions within the state, especially as the APC is yet to formally announce its consensus candidates for the upcoming elections.

The development was also seen by stakeholders as misleading and capable of causing embarrassment within the government and parties.

Reacting to the development on Saturday in a statement made available to PLATFORM TIMES, Doregos firmly denied any involvement in the publication, saying he was neither the author nor the endorser of the message spread in his name.

He said the post was the work of a suspect, who he accused of impersonating him to spread false information.

“I have never issued any directive to anyone to post about senatorial candidates or any political issue. Our party has a proper process and, as a person within the government, I am too aware of the procedures to engage in such baseless claims,” he said.

Doregos described the release as “unfortunate and a figment of the sponsor’s imagination,” warning the public to ignore it completely.

He added that the spread of such misleading content could destabilize political harmony in the state and misinform the party’s supporters.

Meanwhile, the governor’s aide has taken legal action against the alleged impersonator.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that Doregoes through his lawyer, Ijeoma S. Ani-Onyekuru, filed a petition on Friday with the Abeokuta Police Area Command, charging a suspect with impersonation, malicious impersonation and conduct allegedly punishable under cybercrime laws.

Doregos reiterated his commitment to his official duties, stressing that he will not engage in any act capable of weakening the government or creating unnecessary political tension in Ogun State.
