The All Progressives Grand Alliance has announced plans to implement the Option A4 voting system for its primaries ahead of the 2027 general election, as part of efforts to increase transparency and curb electoral malpractices within the party.
Speaking at a meeting of South East stakeholders in Awka, Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, said the move is designed to eliminate manipulation, reduce vote buying and strengthen credibility in the internal processes of the party.
He made it clear that the upcoming primaries will follow stricter rules, warning members against viewing party politics as a profit-driven enterprise. According to him, the Option A4 system – in which supporters physically line up behind their preferred candidates – will make it more difficult to manipulate the results.
Soludo also cautioned aspirants against pursuing multiple political ambitions at once, stressing that such behavior weakens governance and discipline within the party. He added that aspirants will no longer be allowed to visit party leaders privately for incentive, ordering that all engagements be conducted at official party headquarters.
The party’s national chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa, has strengthened the reform agenda, unveiling new guidelines aimed at aligning the party’s processes with electoral law. These include digital member registration, direct primaries, the adoption of Option A4 and the separation of nomination forms.
Schools in Kwara will reopen on Monday
Ezeokenwa explained that aspirants must first obtain an expression of interest form and pass screening before proceeding to purchase application forms. He also said that party officials who wish to support any aspirant must resign from their post to ensure neutrality.
In his remarks, the state President, Ifeatu Obiokoye, commended the stakeholders for their unity, while the South East National Vice President, Augustine Ehiemere, described the party as a leading political force in the region.
The adoption of Option A4 signals a significant change in APGA’s internal electoral approach in preparation for the 2027 elections.
