Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has announced plans to embark on a tour of the 23 local government areas (LGAs) of the state to assess the level of development projects executed by the councils.
The governor made this known while inspecting the construction of a women and children welfare clinic being constructed by Goronyo Local Government Council.
He explained that the visit was necessary to evaluate the scope and quality of the development projects carried out in the ATL.
Governor Aliyu noted that local government councils, being the level of government closest to the people, must impact the lives of rural dwellers through the provision of basic services, thereby complementing the efforts of the state government.
“At the state level, we are implementing projects such as boreholes, rural roads, primary health centers, classroom blocks, besides providing support to farmers.
“We ensure that local government councils receive their monthly allocations, so we expect them to implement projects that will improve the living conditions of their people,” he said.
The governor reassured residents, especially grassroots residents, that his administration remains committed to distributing the dividends of democracy in every part of the state. He also appealed for continued support for government policies and programmes.
Governor Aliyu commended the Goronyo Local Government Chairman for the ongoing construction of the women and children welfare clinic in the area.
“I commend the quality of the work done and call on other local government presidents to step up their efforts to make healthcare accessible to their populations,” he said.
He instructed the Ministry of Health to inspect the project and advise the government on the interventions necessary to achieve the intended objectives.
Earlier, Goronyo Local Government Chairman Zubairu Yari Goronyo revealed that the council is building three women and children welfare clinics in Goronyo, Takakume and Boyekai to improve access to health services.
He added that the Goronyo clinic, which is the largest, is named after the governor’s wife, Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Aliyu.
The President expressed appreciation to Governor Aliyu for his constant support to the Local Government Council.
The governor was accompanied on the inspection visit by the leader of the APC in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammed Gobir, Speaker of the Sokoto State Assembly, Rt. Hon Tukur Bala Bodinga, Minister of Labor and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, Assistant Minister for Works, Barr. Handsome Goronyo, former deputy governor, Barr.
