Following their relegation to the Championship following a disappointing Premier League campaign, a Wolverhampton Wanderers recruitment report described the signing of Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare as “a disaster”.
Tolu Arokodare joined Molineux for a reported fee of £25m from Belgian side Genk last summer after a stellar campaign in which he scored 21 goals in all competitions.
However, according to a breakdown by the Express & Star (E&S), the transfer process that brought the Super Eagles striker to Molineux has been described as “a disaster”, highlighting major disagreements between the club’s management and coaching staff.
The report claims that former Wolves manager Vítor Pereira, who began the season in charge, had made it explicitly clear that Arokodare did not fit the striker profile he was looking for. Despite his reservations, Pereira was rejected by the club’s hierarchy, who pushed for the deal to be completed.
Faced with limited options at the end of the transfer window, the Portuguese tactician eventually approved the move, with Arokodare joining the club on deadline day as what has now been described as a compromise signing rather than a strategic acquisition.
Further revelations indicate that the Nigerian striker was not among the club’s top targets, reinforcing the narrative of a disjointed recruitment process at Wolves during that period.
Arokodare’s future at Molineux now looks uncertain, with the striker expected to leave the Championship side this summer.
Reports suggest that several clubs in Türkiye are closely monitoring his situation as they look to secure his services ahead of the new campaign.
