The Court will issue its sentence in Saleh Mamman’s trial on June 9…

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja on Thursday, April 23, 2026 fixed June 9, 2026 for sentencing in the trial of former Energy Minister, Saleh Mamman, for fraud.

Mamman is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on a 12-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit money laundering amounting to N33,804,830,503.73 (Thirty-Three Billion, Eight Hundred and Four Million, Eight Hundred and Thirty Thousand, Five Hundred and Three Naira, Seventy-Three Kobo).

During the proceedings, Mamman’s lawyer, Femi Atteh, SAN, said he filed his last written submissions on behalf of the accused on April 1, 2026, and also filed a response to the prosecution’s last written submissions.

Atteh further said that the defense team is relying on the submissions in the submissions to urge the court to discharge and acquit Mamman.

The prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, in his response, informed the court that the prosecution team filed its final written submissions on April 14, 2026 and urged the court to convict the accused on all 12 charges.

“Your Lordship, what is important is the fact that the funds left a particular government account and went to a BDC (Bureau de Change) account. The BDC appeared before my Lord to say that he had received this money. The BDC continued to tell Your Lordship how he was transporting money to the defendant’s house. The boy who worked with the defendant also came to testify how he was receiving some of this money on the defendant’s instructions. How else is the prosecution supposed to prove this? evidence before your Lordship is clear,” he said.

He urged the court to reject the defense’s argument and convict the accused.

Justice Omotosho adjourned the matter to June 9, 2026 for judgment.
