Soldiers found the bodies of a soldier’s spouse killed by suspected IPOB members in 2022

Troops of the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, have dismantled the camp of the notorious Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Imo State and discovered the remains of two soldiers kidnapped and killed in 2022.

The Nigerian Army disclosed this in an operational report given to journalists on Saturday in Abuja.

The report revealed that the operation, carried out by troops in collaboration with other security agencies, took place on Friday along Ubaha-Orsu axis in Orsu Local Government Area of ​​the state.

According to the report, the mission is part of the ongoing mop-up and search operations aimed at clearing IPOB/ESN elements and recovering the bodies of Chief Warrant Officer Linus Musa Audu and Private Gloria Mathew.

“The two personnel were kidnapped and killed in May 2022 while traveling for their traditional wedding,” he said.

The report added that troops advancing on the alleged hideout came under heavy fire from armed criminals but responded with more powerful firepower, successfully repelling several ambushes and forcing the attackers to flee.

It noted that the meeting highlighted the desperation of the criminal group, which continues to target security personnel and innocent civilians.

“After the camp was cleared, troops carried out a detailed search and found shallow graves suspected to contain the remains of the slain personnel.

“His body was then exhumed and secured for forensic examination, including DNA analysis, to confirm his identity.

“Efforts continue to be made to engage with the victim’s family to ensure proper identification and facilitate dignified burial arrangements,” the report concluded.
