FCCPC Shuts Down Paradise Estate, Abuja Over ‘Pay, No Home…

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission [FCCPC] has sealed Paradise Estate in Abuja after homebuyers accused the developer of collecting full payment and failing to deliver the homes.

The FCCPC said Monday that the crackdown followed “multiple complaints” from buyers who paid for homes but never received the keys. Some victims reportedly invested their life savings into the scheme based on broken promises.

“Consumer protection is not limited to everyday retail purchases. It also applies to major financial commitments such as housing, where many Nigerians invest their life savings based on promises made by developers,” the Commission said.

“Following complaints received and investigated regarding Paradise Estate, Abuja, including allegations that some buyers completed payment but did not receive the homes promised to them, FCCPC has initiated regulatory action in line with its statutory mandate.”

The regulator warned developers: take the money, keep your word.

“The Commission maintains that businesses should not make promises they cannot keep. Where payment has been received, agreed deadlines must be respected, delays adequately explained and legal remedies provided where obligations are not met,” it said.

The FCCPC added that trust in the property market lives or dies on “transparency, honest communication, adequate records and delivery in line with commitments”.

Affected buyers have been told to lodge complaints and upload proof of payment and all correspondence to http://complaints.fccpc.gov.ng.

Paradise just lost its name. For buyers still waiting for a home, the FCCPC says the first step to getting answers – or refunds – is documentation.
