Babcock Varsity welcomes postgraduate students and requires discipline and integrity

Babcock University has charged its newly admitted postgraduate students to embrace discipline, integrity, hard work and academic excellence as they begin their programs at the institution.

The University mandated during the orientation program organized by the College of Postgraduate Studies to acquaint new students with academic requirements, registration procedures and other guidelines for a successful postgraduate experience.

The College Chancellor, Prof. Yacob Haliso, who spoke at the event alongside his deputies, Prof. Emmanuel Ajike and Dr Sunday Audu, described Babcock as a university committed to transparency, academic equality and peaceful coexistence.

Haliso urged students to prepare for an intensive academic session, stressing that serious academic work will begin immediately and continue until the Christmas holidays.

He said: “From orientation day until the Christmas holidays, you will take intensive lessons with intentional, honest, Christian, friendly and devoted teachers, without intimidation.”

The rector said the university provided an environment where students could pursue their academic goals regardless of their religious or cultural background.

He added: “I want to welcome you to a campus of peace, a campus of tranquility, a campus of transparency, a campus of academic equality, no discriminatory universities.

“Whether you are Muslim, whether you are a non-Seventh-day Adventist, whatever you are, you are made in the image of one God and we treat you as such.”

Haliso also congratulated international students admitted to postgraduate programmes, assuring them that the university will create opportunities for them to interact with management and other members of the university community.

Meanwhile, the college secretary, Dr Muyiwa Ajayi, has reminded new students that postgraduate studies at Babcock require strict adherence to the institution’s academic regulations.

Ajayi revealed that postgraduate students had to register every semester and pay fees semester by semester.

He also stressed the importance of regular attendance, warning that students must attend at least 75% of lessons to be able to sit exams.

“At PG School we register every semester and fees are paid semi-annually. Attendance is compulsory and students are required to sit 10 minutes before classes.

“Also, to be able to take the exams, they have to have 75% attendance,” he said.

University Pastor, Dr. Opeyemi Oladosu, offered prayers for the new students and encouraged them to seek divine guidance throughout their academic journey.

Oladosu, who described God as the ultimate source of knowledge and wisdom, cited passages from Proverbs 3:5-6, James 1:5, Isaiah 41:16, Philippians 4:19 and Psalm 121:7-8, urging students to trust in God’s promises.

Postgraduate coordinators also reassured students of the college’s support throughout their studies.

Among them were Dr. Olufunso Akinboye, Coordinator of the Department of Agriculture, and Dr. Charles Ogboi, Coordinator of the Department of Finance.

Coordinators encouraged students to take advantage of the academic environment and support systems available to them, assuring them that they had chosen the right institution for their postgraduate education.
