“Endorsements don’t win elections” – APC Nasarawa aspirant…

Suleiman Arugungu receives governorship forms from Nasarawa State APC governorship aspirant, Prof. Mohammed Haruna, at the APC Rally and Presentation Center in Abuja ahead of the party primaries.

Nasarawa State governorship aspirant Professor Mohammad Sani Haruna has rejected Governor Abdullahi Sule’s endorsement of a rival, saying the 2027 race will be decided by voters, not “anointed candidates”.

“In fact, I am happy that the approval has happened because now we will see the preference of the people,” Haruna told journalists in Abuja on Friday after submitting the APC nomination and expression of interest forms.

“Politics is a numbers game and the people will decide.”

Haruna, a professor and APC leader, criticized the governor’s public support for another aspirant but said he was “not comfortable” with the process that produced him.

“There are some processes that we’re not comfortable with, and that’s why I raised my hand,” he said.

He insisted that his results and grassroots reach would trump any approval when delegates voted.

“I assure you that I have touched people’s lives more than anyone else. This is a time of vindication for the people of Nasarawa state,” Haruna said.

He predicted that voters would instead “line up behind him” during the primaries.

Haruna urged supporters to reject violence and personal attacks, saying his campaign would focus on issues, not insults.

“There is no need for supporters to argue or clash over political issues,” he said. “We preach peace, coexistence and problem-based politics. We discuss governance, development and policies, not personalities.”

He said his team disciplines supporters who engage in smear campaigns.

“We do not accept defamation. In fact, we take disciplinary measures against any supporter who insults another candidate. This is our principle,” Haruna said.
