FRSC secures conviction of traffic offender for assault and kidnapping

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured the conviction of a traffic offender who kidnapped and assaulted an officer during a routine patrol on the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja,

A statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the Corps of Education Officer (CPEO), Osondu Ohaeri, said the incident occurred on April 30 at around 9am.

Ohaeri said Dutse Alhaji Unit Command personnel, engaged in special patrolling operations at Gegu Service Station, had stopped a Toyota Hilux vehicle with registration number YAB 931 AE for traffic control.

“Instead of peacefully complying with legal directives, the driver allegedly engaged in violent behavior and unlawfully assaulted and kidnapped a marshal while carrying out his official duties,” he said.

He added that thanks to the prompt intervention of the patrol team and police personnel assigned to the operation, the situation was brought under control.

He also said the suspect was immediately taken to FCDA Police Station, Kubwa, for investigation, while the offending vehicle was seized.

“Following diligent judicial proceedings, the offender was arraigned before a competent court and subsequently convicted,” Ohaeri further said.

Reacting, the Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, praised the professionalism, courage and restraint shown by the patrolling team despite the provocation.

Mohammed said the attacks on law enforcement personnel constitute a direct attack on public safety and the rule of law.

He reiterated that the force remains committed to enforcing traffic rules with firmness, civility and respect for human rights.

He warned motorists against obstructing, assaulting, intimidating or any form of violence against FRSC personnel and other law enforcement officers on lawful duty.

The Corps Marshal urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement at all times, stressing that legal enforcement of traffic regulations remains essential to the collective goal of safer roads and protection of lives across the country.

“I assure Nigerians that the FRSC will continue to work closely with relevant security agencies and the judiciary to ensure that persons who violate traffic laws or attack public officials are brought to justice accordingly,” he said.
