The Anambra State Police Command has officially brought five suspects to a Special Court in Awka to face various charges, including rape, sexual assault and physical abuse of children.
Among those appearing in court was a middle-aged father accused of having sexual relations with his own daughter and infecting her with a viral disease.
In a press statement released on Wednesday, the Command Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the legal process follows the conclusion of an intensive investigation conducted by the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The police statement detailed the severity of the crime as follows:
“Officers of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department have completed investigations into several serious cases of sexual offenses and child abuse, including that of a father who had an affair with his daughter and caused her to contract a serious viral disease.”
The five suspects will be tried today, May 6, 2026, at the Special Court in Awka. Here are the details of the case.
One of the cases handled by the SCID Gender Unit involved a 26-year-old security guard identified as Chukwuemeka Chidiebere.
“The Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department on April 22, 2026 received a case of defamation of a 16 year old girl from the Ogbunike Police Divisional Headquarters.”
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, male, aged 26, a security guard at a plantation in the area, allegedly attacked the victim while he was on his way to visit a friend inside the plantation.”
“He is said to have dragged her to an unfinished building within the area where he forcibly performed unlawful sexual intercourse on her. Meanwhile, the suspect has made a confessional statement.”
Police are also investigating a report involving a 36-year-old man, Uchenna Muojama, who allegedly assaulted an 11-year-old girl on April 23, 2026.

“The male suspect, 36 year old Uchenna Muojama, allegedly lured the victim into a barbed bar where he forcibly performed unlawful sexual intercourse on the victim. Operators have further obtained the medical report for court proceedings.”
In another incident reported on April 21, 2025, 52-year-old Chukwudi Nwayata allegedly exploited a mentally challenged 11-year-old girl by luring her to his home to carry out an assault.
The command is further processing the incest case involving Rapuchukwu Ezenandu, 46 years old.
Furthermore, on the same day, April 23 2026, an incest case involving a 20 year old victim was transferred from the Oko Police.
“The suspect, Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, male, aged 46 years, is suspected of having had sexual relations with the victim since he was 17 years old. This case was revealed after the victim tested positive for HIV during a visit to the hospital. The suspect has made a confession statement.”
In addition to sexual offences, police charged Eucharia Ezenwanne with alleged brutal treatment of two young children, aged four and six.
“In another development, on April 28, 2026, a female suspect named Eucharia Ezenwanne allegedly abused two children, Echetuna Ezenwanne (six years) and Chikaima Ezenwanne (four years), with severe physical violence, reportedly using a wire to injure them.
“The suspect admitted to having adopted the children from a motherless orphanage in Onitsha.”
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, strongly condemned this act.
“To this end, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Ikioye Orutugu, described this case as heinous and unacceptable, reaffirming the Commitment of the Command to protect vulnerable people, especially children, and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.”
